Member Question: When I finish my edits in LR and then edit in PS and then bring it back to LR, all my develop settings are gone and it seems to have been saved into the PS image. I have no way of tweaking it post photoshop because it has become a TIFF file – how do I fix this?
Answer: This is the inherent nature of raw files versus TIF or PSD files. Once you bring a raw file into Photoshop, the raw adjustments are permanently applied. You can work around this a little bit by opening the raw file as a smart Object. Then, in Photoshop, you can double-click on the Smart Object layer and it will open a Camera Raw window with the raw adjustments again.
Unfortunately, you still can’t see those raw edits when you bring that image back into LR as a TIF. You would have to open the TIF in PS again, and double-click on the Smart Object layer again.
We recommend that you change your workflow to finalize all LR adjustments prior to taking your image to Photoshop.
