What is the Difference Between Modern and Crush?
This week we’re excited to bring your Crush – our newest Preset pack to join the Visual Flow Development Tools family! There are many similarities between Crush and Modern because they are both designed for the contemporary photographer, however, their differences make them two entirely different products with equally satisfying results.
Similarities
Let’s first start with what they have in common. Both are based on the patent-pending Lighting Condition Based Development system and the DVLOP color profiles. This means that no matter the camera model and no matter the lighting condition, you’ll get a beautiful, consistent look to the images. You’ll see the exact same preset names (Soft Light, Hard Light, HDR natural, etc.), and all of the same camera profiles will be supported.
While Pastel has a much more muted color palette and works best for vintage or stylistic scenes, Modern and Crush work with a variety of image types and locations, making them extremely versatile and appropriate for wedding and portrait photography. With both packs, our focus was to make the same lighting condition-based preset that maintained skintones while still creating entirely different looks.
Differences
The differences between Crush and Modern truly lie in the color (HSL and Color Calibration) and clarity (Sharpness and Dehaze). Our Modern Pack is warm and vibrant while maintaining accurate color tones, giving you a very universally accepted color pallette and overall natural edit. Our Crush Pack, on the other hand, can be described as bold and vivid with a strong emphasis on detail and dynamic range.
